PAT Testing (Portable Appliance Testing)
Portable appliance testing is a procedure to maintain electrical equipment to prevent danger as far as is reasonably practical. All electrical equipment whether permanently connected or connected by plug and socket-outlet should be inspected and tested in accordance with the recommendations contained within the IEE Code of Practice.
The 3 main stages of a PAT test are as follows:
Visual Inspection
Firstly we carry out a visual inspection of the appliance checking:
The Flex,
The Plug &
The Appliance.
Appliance Testing
Then, subject to the appliance passing the visual inspection, we connect it to the PAT Tester which checks:
Earth Continuity,
Insulation Resistance &
Polarity (Power Leads Only)
The Results
Each appliance is then labelled with a PASS/FAIL vinyl label and the results are logged. Each item has its own unique asset register number.
Having completed the testing, the results are presented in a report.
